Secure the Foundation 2023 Event

Join Karen Glass, author and educator, for an all-day Charlotte Mason seminar.

UPDATE: REGISTRATION IS CLOSED: ALL FULL, THANK YOU!

Let’s gather on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 at the Greenwood, Indiana Community Center, Large Community Room at 100 Surina Way, Greenwood, IN 46143 for a day of fellowship and thought-provoking reflection.

Charlotte Mason wrote, “The stream can rise no higher than its source” and “sound theory must underlie successful work.” Our ideas about education and children matter. Let’s discover together how a solid foundation creates freedom and confidence in our endeavors.

9:30 AM: Gather for Registration, refreshments, and greetings

We’ll divide our morning into two parts with a short break between them:

Set the Foundation: A Few Broad Essential Principles

Education should aim at giving knowledge “touched with emotion.” We’ll take a look at the two foundational principles that support all the ideas that are a part of a Charlotte Mason education, and see how all the rest of the principles relate to those.

Think Clear: The Mind of a Person

“He can work and love and pray and live righteously, but all these are the outcome of the manner of thoughts he thinks.”  Let’s spend some time focusing on the way the Charlotte Mason’s methods of education develop the mind, and the impact that has on actions and behavior.

90 Minute lunch break (lunch not provided but nearby restaurant suggestions will be available)

After lunch, our afternoon will be divided into two lectures, with another short break between them.

Feel Deep: The Heart of a Person

“The question is not,––how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education––but how much does he care?” Let’s take a look at the various kinds of relationships that are possible, and the difference it makes when we learn to care. How can we set our children’s feet in a large room?

Bear Fruit Well: The Life of a Person

“His education must have prepared him for wanderings in these realms of gold.” We don’t want an education that is just a matter of ticking boxes and calling it done. We want an education—for ourselves and for our children—that will open the door to a rich and full life, regardless of our vocation. That’s what a Charlotte Mason education proposes to give.

Seminar ends at 4:30 PM

Please consider joining Karen Glass for a day of contemplation based on the wisdom and experience of Charlotte Mason. This will be a time of refreshment and encouragement to both new and veteran homeschooling parents. There is no provision for children, apart from nursing infants, but interested teenagers are welcome. (There is no separate teen track.) Spaces are limited, so registering early will ensure your place.

UPDATE: REGISTRATION IS CLOSED: ALL FULL, THANK YOU!

Cost for the day is $65 for one person, which includes light refreshments and beverages. For a couple (spouse or teen), the cost is $110.
